Getting out of Lockdown – Step by Step Water Safety

The Government said last month that we couldn’t live this way forever. We echo this as we want to get back to some resemblance of normality as we knew it before the Covid-19 pandemic. For many, that’s seeing our friends and family, getting back to work or education. For pHX Water that’s getting out and protecting homes and properties through Legionnaire Risk Assessments, Water Tank Cleaning and Disinfection, Routine Sampling and Maintenance and of course, supporting businesses through the Covid-19 pandemic.

We understand and appreciate that many people have lost their lives to the Coronavirus disease since the first positive test in Scotland on March 1st. Over 60 people have died from the Coronavirus in Perth & Kinross. Still, we also shouldn’t ignore the health and safety risks we (as a business) focus on all year round. We continue to drive home that the work we carry out saves lives too.

Much like the Government, we have our steps that will prepare your business premises and private properties as we head towards exiting the lockdown completely. It is not an exact science as every customer’s needs and budget are different.

Step 1

Locate all areas where water can lie dormant and enable the growth of bacteria. This includes water tanks, pipework, hot water cylinders and water treatment equipment.

Step 2

Assess when the system was last used, treated, or cleaned. For some part, a visual check might be enough to figure out if work is required i.e. inspecting a cold water tank or hot water cylinder. If you are not comfortable doing this, it would be best to give us a call. We can give your property a full walkthrough and highlight the potential areas that could cause Legionella problems.

Step 3

Decide on how you want to approach this. Should you disinfect the water systems before re-opening? Does your health status or at-risk status allow you to do this while we are in the Covid-19 lockdown? Perhaps you want to take us up on our advice and recommendations?

Step 4

Set a budget and a priority list of works to be carried out. Again, this is likely to be different for everyone on a personal basis and a commercial basis. If you are a business, we will be keen to keep a good line of communication, this way we can ensure that your business is safe as possibly can be. Any work carried out will be in line with the guidelines set out by the Government throughout every stage of the lockdown exit strategy.

Step 5

Let us carry out the work you want us to complete. We will meticulously treat and disinfect your problematic areas. Making sure that you are safe and confident that you are not contributing to the overall situation that we are all living in just now.
